Born 7th of 10 children to a minor Baron in the Federated Suns, Galen was born to privilege, as his parents tended to indulge his fancies of being a knight. Also, extolling his family history of service, especially loyal service to their sworn lords, the Davions. When he finally came of age, he applied and was accepted to Sakhara Military Academy like his fore fathers, including both parents. Excellent grades and a natural aptitude for Mech piloting got him accepted, but the soft life he had lived for the first part of his life caused him to plateau early. He formed friendships, and was well liked by the student body; however, the academy gave him a dose of real life, and though it nearly caused him to flunk out, he managed to turn things around, stop being a spoiled rich brat, and graduate. The dose of reality didn’t make him loose his fantasy however. Piloting a Mech, fighting for his liege lord kept the spark alive, an assignment to the 3rd Crusis Lancers made him a modern knight. His parents gave him a family heirloom, a Warhammer 6D as a gift for graduation and assignment.
His service to the Achernar Lancers was good, honorable, but not exemplary. First assigned to a Fire Lance, he performed well, and after 4 years and a good performance in Galahad 26, he was promoted to brevet Lance Commander. He continued to perform well in the following year, and was awarded the lance command permanently just in time for Galahad 28, or more correctly the 4th Succession War. Striking deep into Liao territory, the 3rd Crusis Lancers, along with all the other RCTs from the Crusis March, bloodied and destroyed their share of Liao units. Awarded a Silver Sunburst for actions in the Tikonov assault as well as the Limp Sword Flag as part of the 3rd Crusis, Galen was wounded in action, loosing half of his left hand and foot to a cockpit hit. He evacuated back to New Avalon to recover. By the time he returned to duty, the war was over, his mech was in disrepair, he was promoted to Subaltern, and honorably discharged from the AFFS. Mech in tow, he returned home and with a lot of money and hard work, he repaired his mech and relearned to pilot with his handicaps.
Having tasted the galaxy at large, he was taken by wanderlust, and as a new Knight Errant, he decided to plunge into the world of the mercenary, setting out for points unknown to bring justice to the wicked, help to the helpless, and maybe slay a Dragon or two.
